Villa Adriana, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, is one of the most significant examples of Romans great architectural genius, although echoes of Greek and Egyptian styles are also present. Fulfilling Emperor Hadrian’s wishes, Villa Adriana was built between 118 and 138 A.D. and includes buildings, thermae, nymphaeums and gardens, with a number of “inventions” which completely differ from the style of the period either in the form of the roofs or in the shape of the buildings: public and private spaces are thus created as places where thought and spirit can flourish.
