Situated on a calcareous plateau overhanging the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Greek city of Selinunte was supposedly founded in 650 b.C. and reached its highest magnificence in the 6th and 5th centuries b.C. This archaeological jewel has been destroyed and rebuilt by the Carthaginians.
Its only remains are magnificent architectures, like the Temple of Hera and remarkable examples of fine arts, such as the wonderful metopes.
