Italy 5 Euro Silver Coin 2013 150th Anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Gioachino Belli 1863 - 2013

With a production of over two thousand sonnets in “romanesco”, the Roman vernacular, Giuseppe Gioachino Belli is considered a real icon of Roman’s dialectal poetry. His sonnets, always poising between verismo and the picaresque, reveal his nature of alert observer and depict a snapshot of 19th century Romans’ life, described with acute realism, extreme disenchantment and sharp irony.

Obverse: Bust of Giuseppe Gioachino Belli in three quarter view facing right; around “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”.

Reverse: View of the city of Rome, Piazza Bocca della Verità: in the background, the Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin; in the foreground, on the right, one of the Roman temples of the Foro Boario; around, on top, on two lines, “G. GIOACHINO BELLI”; in exergue, “1863, 2013”, “MOMONI”; on the right “R”, “5 EURO”.
