Italy 20 Euro Gold Coin 2014 Baroque
Coins of the Italian Republic: Flora in Art series
In the 17th century, Rome became the world capital of Baroque, masterfully interpreted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who “dressed up” the city with his masterpieces.
His sculpture representing the metamorphosis of Daphne in a laurel tree is one of the most extraordinary icons of Baroque art, echoed by details of the imposing facade of the Galleria Borghese and of the decorations that adorned the Fontana dei Mascheroni e Tritoni in the Giardino del Lago of Villa Borghese.
Obverse: detail of the facade of the Galleria Borghese in Rome; above, detail of the Fontana dei Mascheroni e dei Tritoni in Villa Borghese; in the field, on a line, and on the bottom, round, the related inscriptions “REPUBBLICA” e “ITALIANA”; around, dot decorated frame.
Reverse: Daphne transforming in a laurel tree: detail of the group Apollo e Dafne by Gian Lorenzo Bernini conserved at the Galleria Borghese in Rome; round, left to right, the inscription “FLORA NELL’ARTE”; in the right field the value “20 EURO”, in the left one, the year of issue “2014” bottom, signature of the artist “A. MASINI”; around, dot decorated frame.
