Coins of the Italian Republic: Italy of Arts Series

Delightful art town stretching out between the Gran Sasso and the Adriatic Sea, Atri can boast age-old origins which its picturesque historical centre still keeps excellently alive with wonderful monuments and a maze of streets lost in a Medieval atmosphere. Among all these monuments, the 13th century extraordinary Cathedral stands out with its simple and austere façade and the valuable choir frescos by Andrea Delitio.

Reverse: detail from the bas-relief of the 15th century by Andrea Delitio depicting the martyr Saint Reparata holding the scale model of the town of Atri; in the right field, a decorative detail from a bas-relief of the Cathedral; around, from left to right, the inscription “ITALIA DELLE ARTI”; in the field, on three lines, “R” and the value “EURO 10”; around, below, on the left, “ATRI”; around, a linear circle.
