Italy 10 Euro Silver Coin 2013 Fenis Castle - Valle d'Aosta
Coins of the Italian Republic: Italy of Arts Series

The Castle of Fénis, one of the symbols of feudal and Medieval Valle d’Aosta, is situated on the top of a small knoll and, despite its impressive defensive structure, it was not built for military purposes, but to serve only as a prestigious residence for the Challant family. Its many towers very well merge with the pentagonal layout of the castle and its double defensive walls. The loggia overlooking the internal courtyard, as well as the chapel, are both decorated with valuable frescoes dating back to the 15th century and bring with them a special appeal.

Obverse: Castle of Fénis; around, REPUBBLICA ITALIANA; in exergue “FENIS”, “COLANERI”.

Reverse: fresco depicting Saint George and the drake, situated on the background of the great staircase in the internal yard of the Castle of Fénis; around “ITALIA”, “DELLE ARTI”; in the central part “2013”, “R”; below right “10 EURO”.
