Windows of History

Some historical events are so sad that the world will remember them for many years. One of such events is the Titanic catastrophe that happened in 1912. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this pitiful date, the Cook Islands have issued a coin with a glass insert that has also become the first issue in the Windows of History series. The proof coin is made of high-quality .925 silver and exists only in 1.912 copies.

The obverse side of the coins issued by Cook Islands traditionally have an image of Queen Elizabeth II. In this case, the royal effigy is set a bit to the left because of the special glass insert. The image comes surrounded by inscriptions denoting the regent's name, the nominal value and the country of issue.

The design of the reverse side includes the images of the shipwreck and of the ship itself. The shiny glass insert symbolizes a porthole and a staircase that was installed in the first class department of Titanic. This side of the coin also has inscriptions that stand for the name of the series and the name of the historical event. The encapsulated coin comes in a stylish box that underlines the silver shine and provides additional information about the historical even and the coin itself.
