Canada 50 Cents Silver Coin 2003 Golden Daffodil
Yellow daffodils are highlighted in 24-karat gold on this artistic silver coin!
This is the second annual entry in the very popular Golden Flowers series.
Obverse: Three distinctive daffodil blossoms along with leaves and stalks are accented in 24-karat gold plating on a field of silver. A stylized 2003 appears to the right.
The beautiful daffodil adorns this sterling silver proof. The daffodil, also referred to as the jonquil, is a flower whose blooms herald the arrival of spring, sometimes poking up through the snow. The genus name Narcissus is the Latin name for this group of hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs. This name is derived from that of the narcissistic youth of Greek mythology called Narkissos.
Reverse: Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England, in a crowned profile facing right. This portrait, the third effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The legend ELIZABETH II, and denomination also appear.
Technology Note: The Royal Canadian Mints proprietary selective gold plating process is the most advanced in the world, resulting in unparalleled precision and beauty.
