Celebrating the 450 years since the birth of this famous playwrite, The Perth Mint is delighted to present a stunning commemorative befitting Shakespeare and his literary achievements. One of the greatest writers in the English language, William Shakespeare, is immortalised on this spectacular 5 oz silver proof coin.
Obverse: Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the coin’s weight and fineness, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.
Reverse: The coin’s reverse features a spiral-line engraved likeness of Shakespeare. The design also includes a representation of the Globe theatre with an actor on stage surrounded by motifs denoting famous scenes from Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and Henry V. The inscriptions ‘William Shakespeare’ and ‘450th Anniversary of his Birth’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
