Coins of Yugoslavia 100 Dinara Silver Coin 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic Games - Speed skating
At the time, Sarajevo was the second largest city to host the Olympic Winter Games. These were the first Winter Olympic Games that featured gold coins. Marja-Liisa Haemaelaeinen of Finland was the first woman to win three gold medals in cross country skiing. Katarina Witt won her first Olympic gold medal in Figure Skating, and figure skating duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Gold Medal, and performed to the music of Ravel’s Bolero.
Obverse Design: The Olympic emblem of Sarajevo (The emblem symbolizes a stylized snowflake, as well as the embroidery produced in the Sarajevo region with the Olympic rings above.), the emblem of Yugoslavia, and a Cyrillic legend, meaning: “The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia”
Reverse Design: Speed skater, and the legend, “XIV Zimske Olimpijske Igre Sarajevo ‘84”, meaning: “XIV Olympic Winter Games Sarajevo ‘84”.
The artists for all Reverse Designs were Nebojsa Mitric, Dragisa Andric, Dragomir Mileusnic, Djordje Jovanovic, and Ljubisa Mancic. The artist for all Obverse Designs was Nebojsa Mitric.

Speed skating at the 1984 Winter Olympics
Speed skating at the 1984 Winter Olympics was held from 9 February to 18 February. Nine events were contested at Zetra Ice Rink.
East Germany topped the medal table with four gold medals, and eleven total, including a complete sweep of gold and silver medals in the four women's events.
This was only the second Games in which the United States did not win a speed skating medal, and as of 2010, the only time since 1960 the Netherlands did not win a medal in the sport. Japan's Yoshihiro Kitazawa won his country's first Olympic medal in speed skating.
East Germany's Karin Enke led the individual medal table, winning a medal in each of the women's events, finishing with two golds and two silvers. Canada's Gaétan Boucher was the most successful male skater, with two gold medals and a bronze.
Twenty-four nations competed in the speed skating events at Sarajevo. The British Virgin Islands and Yugoslavia made their debuts in the sport.
