The obverse features the Arnold Machin portrait of a young Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara. Inscribed around her "THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS" and "ELIZABETH II." The reverse shows two Flamingos with plant life at their feet and standing before a radiant sunset on the horizon. The inscriptions "INDEPENDENCE 1973" and '"FIFTY DOLLARS" appear above and below respectively. These coins were minted to proof quality using special dies and polished blanks.
