Liberia 5 Dollars Silver Coin 2011 History of Railroads, Shinkansen 500

This beautiful series of $5 silver coins of Liberia is dedicated to significant milestones in the history of railroads. They feature the world’s most renowned trains in full-color stunning design. The Shinkansen 500 coin is struck in .999 pure silver in proof quality.

The Liberian Coat of Arms occupies the obverse of the silver coin. It features a coastal landscape with a ship arriving in Liberia bringing the freed slaves from America. The national motto of Liberia ‘The love of liberty brought us here’ appears on a scroll above the shield. There are also the following legends: the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.

The reverse features a realistic colored image of the Shinkansen known as the fastest, most powerful and most expensive trains to run on Japan's high-speed rail network. The dramatically-styled 500 Series trains are quite striking, with a 15 metre-long pointed needle nose more like that of a supersonic plane, giving an extremely aerodynamic profile. These trains can travel at a speed of 320 km/h. The names of the coin and series are indicated along the rim of the coin. Issued with the limited mintage, each coin of the series reflects a chapter of world history and will be of particular interest to those collecting history-themed coins from around the world.
