Liberia 5 Dollars Silver Coin 2011 History of Railroads, Durango & Silverton
This beautiful series of $5 silver coins of Liberia is dedicated to significant milestones in the history of railroads. They feature the world’s most renowned trains in full-color stunning design. The Durango and Silverton coin is struck in .999 pure silver in proof quality.
The Liberian Coat of Arms occupies the obverse of the silver coin. It features a coastal landscape with a ship arriving in Liberia bringing the freed slaves from America. The national motto of Liberia ‘The love of liberty brought us here’ appears on a scroll above the shield. There are also the following legends: the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
The reverse features a vivid colored image of a steam locomotive of the outstanding Durango and Silverton Railroad. Since 1882, it has been one of the Southwest's most sought after tourist attractions for over 130 years. Originally constructed to transport silver and gold ore, the Durango-Silverton Railroad soon became popular among passengers thanks to unique scenic places it ran through. The names of the coin and series are indicated along the rim of the coin. Issued with the limited mintage, each coin of the series reflects a chapter of world history and will be of particular interest to those collecting history-themed coins from around the world.
