The Liberian Coat of Arms occupies the obverse of the silver coin. It features a coastal landscape with a ship arriving in Liberia bringing the freed slaves from America. The national motto of Liberia ‘The love of liberty brought us here’ appears on a scroll above the shield. There are also the following legends: the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
The reverse features a vivid colored image of the Legendary Blue Train linking Africa’s vast south to north through the breathtaking scenery of mountain ranges, desrts and savannah grasslands. The 1,600-kilometer (990 mi) journey of the Blue Train is known as one of the most luxurious train journeys in the world. A "magnificent moving five-star hotel” – that’s how the Blue Train is called by its operators, who note that kings and presidents have travelled on it. The Blue Train's origins date back to the Union Limited and Union Express trains which began in 1923, taking passengers from Johannesburg to the ships departing from Cape Town to England. This proof legal-tender silver coin was minted under authority of the Government of Liberia from 20 grams of .999 fine silver and has a diameter of 38.6 millimeters.
