Victoria Sovereign minted at the Sydney Mint in Australia at 1866. The coin's unique portrait of the Queen is seen on no other British colonial coinage. The reverse states . . . SYDNEY MINT. This type Sovereign which was minted between 1857 and 1870, is known as the "Type II". In 1871, Imperial Sovereigns with Shield and St. George reverses were introduced, to conform to British gold coinage.
